About Window TintModel - General QuestionsWhat is window tint film?Window tint film is a thin laminate film that can be installed on the interior of glass surfaces in automobiles, homes and buildings. It is most commonly used to reduce the amount of sunlight that passes through the glass. Excessive heat and UV light can be harmful and cause damage to the environment, furniture, decoration and even your skin.Every type of window film is usually made from polyethylene terephthalate, also known as PET. There are many uses of window film, such as light reduction, heat reduction and for the purpose of safety. According to different uses, the construction components of window films are not always the same. The composition of sunlightWhat is sunlight composed of?The composition of sunlight can be divided into five spectra of rays according to their wavelengths: ultraviolet light (UV), visible light and infrared light..UV light is divided into three main groups:UVC rays: wavelength ranges from 100 to 280 nm. UVC rays are generally not a risk factor for skin cancer. They react with ozone high in our atmosphere and do not reach the ground.UVB rays: wavelength ranges from 280 to 315 nm. UVB rays are also greatly absorbed by the Earth's atmosphere. It is the main composition that directly damages DNA and causes sunburn.UVA rays: wavelength ranges from 315 to 400 nm. UVA is known to cause significant damage to our body and skin.Excessive sunlight will cause the indoor temperature to be too high, resulting in a large increase in electricity consumption. Installing window tint film can block infrared and ultraviolet rays passing through the glass, so as to save electricity, save energy and reduce carbon emissions.Window Film Blocks or Reduces HeatHow does window film reduce or reject heat?Heat rejection window films are usually applied to the interior of flat glass windows to reduce the amount of infrared, visible light, and ultraviolet radiation entering windows. Window films have two main ways to reduce and reject heat coming through the glass:One way is by reflecting incoming infrared radiation away from the window. This is achieved by containing metal materials on the window film, which has the effect of rejecting a significant portion of the sun’s heat. Which means the metallic window film mainly reduces heat by reflecting it.The other way that window film reduces heat is by absorbing it. The materials in the window film helps absorb the heat coming through the glass to lower the interior temperature. The ceramic window film is using this method of absorbing heat to achieve the cooling effect. The non-metallic ceramic window films are usually more expensive than metallic and dyed window films because the former can significantly reduce heat transmission and is also friendly to the environment.Window Tint PercentageWhat do different levels of window tint percentage or visible light transmittance (VLT) mean?Visible light transmittance (VLT) is the amount of light in the visible portion of the spectrum that passes through a glazing material or glass. The lower the percentage of the VLT, the darker the film (or vice versa). However, the darker film does not mean it can reduce more heat than the brighter film. Some window films with high VLT can block or reduce even more heat than the darker ones.Reduce and Retain HeatCan window film help us stay warmer in the winter?Window film can help reduce heat in the summer. In fact, window film also retains heat inside of your home during the winter months. In the winter, the heat generated inside the building can easily escape through windows and doors. By applying window film, the heat can be reflected back into the room, conserving the amount of heat that may be lost through the windows. This helps to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature and to cut heating costs at the same time.
